Considerable attention was given to new forms of art born out of the union with digital media in a dedicated section, Sconfindando - Digitalia, and in a special one devoted to Videodance, which took stock of this artistic field, still relatively unexplored in Italy. The Cinema side of the festival presented its three customary competitive sections (Nuovi Sguardi for international feature films, Sguardi (S)confinati, devoted to Italian independent cinema, Le Donne Raccontano, showcasing international documentary), as well as a non-competitive section devoted to "war zones", which focused on current world conflicts, and one offering a glimpse of Italian documentary production (Sguardi Incrociati). The festival also included a series of screenings-events on the themes of human rights and the environment (the latter being the focus of Milan's 2015 Expo). Sguardi Altrove has always been paying close attention to emerging cinema industries from all over the world: in 2009 it presented a tribute to contemporary cinema from Russia and the former Soviet Union. The festival's programme also included: a talk and a series of screenings on the world of cinema production from a female perspective (with actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta); a tribute to Michelangelo Antonioni curated by Mario Serenellini; the award 'Donne e musica - Women and Music' in collaboration with cultural association Il Fischio. The beautiful "Casa del Pane" hosted the "Beyond Cinema" section dedicated to visual arts, including photographic exhibition Stars on Air, the Milano Expo 2015 project, with photographic work by Gabriele Basilio, Marina Ballo, Riccardo Bucci, and a selection of paintings by young Italian women artists curated by Ferruccio Giromini. The festival's opening featured a theatre-dance performance by Sisina Augusta's dance company and a concert by strings quintet The Queentet. |
